This semester’s Learning-Schedule
With the semester coming to it’s end we created a learning plan to have a survey that contains the examination dates and blocks that describe on what day to learn for which exam. This sheet is provided for people from my learning group for the respective exams
The document is available as an excel sheet:
Proseminar on Self-stabilization
This semester I have spent some time on my pro-seminar at the I2 chair of the department for computer science at the RWTH Aachen. Today I filed the first version of my work to my organizer Dr. Noll. In case you want to take a look at the document I’ve uploaded it to my blog.
(So after a lot of reading and the correction of some major spelling errors I will hand in this version and wait for the results…)
The Ugly Code-Duckling #2
Hi again! After correcting some Java programms i’ve encountered a completely new level of compilable nonsense. As always I do not mind sharing with you.
All stations brace for impact. Bring her in, straight and steady Mr. Zulu.

The Ugly Code-Duckling #1
Hi there. I work as a tutor for the programming lecture this semester. So during correction of exercise of my own students or within discussions with my co-tutors I came across some really exotic implementations for some really simple problems. Because we think that some solutions we see while correcting exercises are really funny I decided to make a small kind of gallery for these code snippets.
This is the first release of “The Ugly Code-Duckling”
Caution advised: The following content may be inflammable, highly explosive and not funny to the untrained (non-computer-scientist’s) eye. Enjoy with prudence.
public static int zahl;
public static void eingabe() {
zahl = AdvancedIO.eingabe();
if( zahl < 0 ) {
System.out.println( "Bitte eine positive Zahl eingeben!" );
eingabe();
}
}
Once in a while…
Hey there. Long time no post. Couple of things happened though. The new semester is commencing, but this time it’s a little bit more interessting. We finally got some good classes which do not seem to base on animating student to perform more or less meaningful chores to acquire the authorization to take the exam. No! This time we have lectures I like to call interessting.
To be more precise, this semester my crew and me are listening to lectures like mathematical logic, computability and complexity and system programming. Also it’s nice to notice that the pace has been reduced in the lectures. This tends to lessen the stress a little bit and makes learning much easier.
For my seminar this semester I have choosen “internet technologies”, well I got “distributed algorithms”. But you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. At least when the subtopics where distributed on the students I got my wish granted. So the next months, until february I think, the topic of self-stabilization will be a perstitent matter on my mind.
To round things up, here’s a photo I’ve taken from the neighborhood of my mothers house when I visited my hometown a few weeks ago.
First Glance: ‘The Moomug’
Hi there, long time no see!
Yesterday the new website of Felix and Fernando went online. They will use the website as a platform dedicated to their webcomic “The Moomug”. It is all about being a student in computer science at the RWTH-Aachen and the clichés the people have about computer scientists.
Right now there are four webcomics and an animated intro online. Their first entry quotes this
We’re online, finally. After about four month of conception, design, re–design and maaaaany drugs we’re now making our contribution to the webcomic–world.
We know, the waiting has been hard. Until now, you could live without us, but that’s over.
From now on, you’ll get your weekly dosis of Moomug from us, starting with the first five episodes (so it’s easier to wait). In case you didn’t notice: the comic and the page are avaible in three languages.
Okay, now go play and stop bothering us.
Greetings
Felix & Nano
PS: Every user, who doesn’t leave a comment will be logged, his location will be traced and with the help of russian Satelites and Google Earth his misserable existence will be wiped away. Have fun.
The webcomics are published in german, english and spanish. Also I am proud that some episodes will feature a guest appearance of me, or better said my comic-alter-ego. Finally after you’ve done all the reading here’s the link so you can enjoy the actual webcomics:
Semester’s exams concluded
Finally it is done. I’ve written all exams I wanted to participate this semester. For now the holidays could commence - well if there were not many tasks waiting for my attention.
Today after the exam in “discrete structures” I managed to move half of my stuff to my new appartment with help of Fernando who is going to Spain for a month roughly. So our private project on computer graphics will be put on hold for the next four weeks.
Felix also went home for a few days, so I now have a decent stock of time I plan to spend on my cute girlfriend and my work.

Felix showed me this video, linked at YouTube.com. I find it to be more than hilarious. In fact it knocked me off the chair more than once.

“Discrete structures” script (updated)
The lecture of discrete structures this semester was read by Prof. Nebe who hasn’t conducted this lecture before, so there was no public script available that covered the lecture content as arrange by Prof. Nebe.
I decided to write a script myself while I was attending the lecture. The premature result is available for download. It doesn’t cover the whole lecture yet and it’s only some kind of “work in progress” version - and against all rumors: I’m still working on the document, but I’m having a hard time keeping up with the pace of my life as it is these days.
Annotation:
Until today Felix, Fernando, Sebastian and I worked through the first three chapters of the script during our preparation efforts for the upcoming exam on discrete structures. I corrected a few spelling errors and a line in the algorithm on page 30 as well as a major flaw in the equation on page 31.
Numerics leaflet
During the preparation for my upcoming exam in differential equations and numerics I rounded up some information on algorithms and procedures used in the lecture. If you like to peek, feel no shame and go ahead.
I’d really like it if you drop me a comment if you find any errors in the leaflet.
